Assignment #8 History of Photography: When did it all begin? What is Photography?
Your first research assignment for the semester is to create a document or presentation of some kind (Prezi, Google slides, song) illustrating the history of photography. This must show the history of Photography between 1800 and Present (200+ years). There must be no less than 12 and no more than 24 slides (not including cover slide) highlighting some of the top discoveries in the history of Photography between these dates. Make sure to list your resources.

Find and photograph each of the following subjects. Be creative, make them interesting.
Not all images are of specific things, some have to do with technique.
When you are done they must be labeled. Changing the name of the image.
You have class time to complete the list or outside of class if you are able.
You can not use the same image twice. Consider the placement of the subject in the frame, make it look good. Composition is key here!

Assignment #10 Alexander Rodchenko. Find a new Perspective: (12 images)
In your own words and in complete sentences. Write at least two paragraphs describing who Alexander Rodchenko was and why was he influential to Photography. (if your class did the history assignment above disregard this part of this assignment). Instead look him up and see what was different about his photographic style. What was new about what he was doing?
Sometimes the world becomes to “vanilla” and we need to get a new point of view to bring back the spark. Find a new way to look at everyday objects and scenes. If your camera has a macro setting you may use it for some of the images.
12 final images.
In your portfolio create a new gallery (in Grid format) and place all 12 images.

Open Photoshop, go to File / *New or Open.
A new blank document dialog box will open up.
File New:
This is where we determine our documents size and settings. Choose your size, settings and resolution. Click OK.
File Open: This is Where a already taken image will open. If we look at the image above we can see the important parts / tools that will be used the most while using Photoshop CC.
The Toolbox, is where you fid all the adjusting tools. If a tool has a little triangle in the bottom right corner that indicates that there are additional tools in the "drawer". Click and hold the tool to open the drawer. Layers are one of the most basic aspects of image editing software. Understanding and learning how layers work is essential for anybody who wants to use post-processing to improve their images. Layers are such a rudimentary part of an editing workflow that once you start editing your images on a regular basis it will feel as a second nature to you.
Assignment 11 Then and Now This assignment revolves around the local area, its past and how it has changed to todays look. You are to choose at least one old photograph from the manchester Historical Societies images. Manchester Historical Society Once you have chosen your image you are to find that location and make a photograph from the point it was originally taken. Be aware that some buildings may not exist any longer. One you have taken the new view image you will open both photos in Photoshop and merge them into a split image showing both past and present.

Using photoshops layers and painting tools you can add color to images to bring them back to life or to give the illusion that they were photographed with color film. DO NOT use a color photograph / turn it to black and white and then add color back.

Assignment #12 Who are you? A vision board EXAMPLES Using Layers to create a composite image.
Find or photograph a collection of images that represent you. (car you drive, favorite shoes, favorite color, band, etc.) Use this collection of images to show who you are now and where you would like to be in five to ten years. What you would like to be doing, where would you like to be, what would you like to accomplish in that time etc. . Your vision board should focus on how you want to feel, not just on things that you want. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to include the material stuff, too.
Anything that inspires and motivates you. The purpose of your vision board is to bring everything on it to life. First, think about what your goals are in the following areas: relationships, career and finances, home, travel, personal growth (including social life, education) and health.
Make a new document in Photoshop as letter size 8.5x11.
Create a sub folder in your desktop folder to keep all collected images. Do Not drag and drop right from the internet! The best way to bring images into Photoshop is to either Place them in by going to File: Place and select the image you want or, you can drag and drop from the image folder you created.
When searching for images on the internet make sure you are keeping the highest quality images, this will make a huge difference on how your final project looks. When searching for images Open the image then "Save As" by right clicking on the image and save it into your image folder.
Create a collage using at least 10 of the images you have gathered in a way that represents you.
In your Portfolio write at least one good paragraph explaining your choices and your vision. Even better, write it down on paper using pen or pencil and photograph that paper with your iPad or phone and post that photo along with your board.
Assignment #13 Fall / Winter Landscape : Equinox Pond
You live in an area that has been considered one of the most beautiful places to view the changes in foliage during the fall months.
Photograph these changes, think of color and contrast when choosing your images. Water and fall colors work well together. Sometimes these colors “Pop” more when it is slightly overcast or after a rain.
Remember composition, framing, and depth of focus when taking your image.
In your e-portfolio write down anything you learned and a reflection about the assignment. Add the image that best represents assignment.
Assignment #14 15 Image Photo**
Find a subject or a scene that you can photograph in at least 15 sections. Make 2 of these. Once the images have been taken bring them into Photoshop and arrange them in order to make one final image. I am not looking for the photos to be perfectly placed together like a puzzle. Try changing camera angles.
Begin with a 20x24 in blank document (portrait or horizontal depending on your final image) then drag all of your images from your folder into the blank doc. You will have to size each image individually. By hitting enter/return the next image will open and you will have to size and place that one. this process will continue until all images are sized and placed into the correct position.
In your e-portfolio write down anything you learned and a reflection about the assignment. What tools did you use in Photoshop, how did you take the pictures, what was the biggest challenge. Do you feel like your final image fulfills the expectations of the assignment.
